Results of the Voluntary Sector Review EMB Elections

Changes to the editorial roles for Voluntary Sector Review have been agreed and Cathy Pharoah is to become the editor of the Policy Review section of the journal. The holder of this role is an ex officio member of the EMB. For this reason Cathy has withdrawn her nomination for election.

Since there were 3 candidates for 2 vacancies we can now declare that Margaret Harris and James Rees have been elected.

The election is now closed. Thank you to all those who participated.

Voluntary Sector Review Prize Winner

Sarah Chew of the University of Leicester is the winner of the Voluntary Sector Review (VSR) prize draw of £50 worth of Policy Press books of her choice. Her name was drawn from among the large number of people who visited the newly launched VSR Editorial Manager (EM) site to update their details before 1 November.

The editor encourages all those interested in Voluntary Sector research, policy and practice to either register at, or log in to, the EM site and specify their areas of interest so that we can in future invite you to assist the journal by reviewing articles that are relevant to your expertise. Articles for consideration by the journal are also submitted via the EM site.

A print copy of the VSR is a membership benefit of VSSN. Membership details for the Network are available here. More information about the journal can be found here.

Day Conference 4 December 2012 – Bookings now open

The next VSSN Day Seminar will take place at Cardiff University on Tuesday 4th December 2012: 10.30 – 4.00. The seminar is hosted by Wales Council for Voluntary Action with WISERD – the Wales Institute for Social and Economic Research, Data and Methods.

The programme has now been finalised. It features an exciting programme of presentations, exploring variously boundaries between the sector and the public and private sectors, social movements and online campaigning, and the experiences of smaller and local organisations and groups. The programme is available here with links to abstracts and speaker details. You can book online until 26th November.

Election to Voluntary Sector Review Editorial Management Board

An election will open shortly for the Voluntary Sector Review (VSR) Editorial Management Board (EMB). The Editorial Management Board is elected by VSSN members and is responsible for appointing and advising the Editorial Team, in consultation with The Policy Press (the publishers of VSR).

All VSSN members will receive an email inviting them to participate in the election and providing them with a unique link to vote online. You can read the nomination statements of those standing for election here. There are currently two vacancies for the VSR EMB which arise from the completion of elected terms of Margaret Harris and Cathy Pharoah. More information about the journal and its governance can be found here.

We received five nominations for five positions to the Steering Group (the body that runs VSSN), so there will be no election required for this body this year. Mike Aiken, Robert Dalziel, Anjelica Finnegan, Andri Soteri-Proctor and Meta Zimmeck have been elected or re-elected. Their terms of office will vary (to maintain a regular turnover of the Steering Group) but this will be decided at a later date. They will take up their positions at the AGM in December.
