About our Journal

VSSN's journal is Voluntary Sector Review (VSR for short). It publishes high-quality, peer-reviewed, accessible papers on third sector research, policy and practice, book reviews and occasional review articles. It is an invaluable resource for all who undertake research on, or work in, the voluntary and community sector, the wider third sector, and civil society. Rigorous and stimulating, VSR is indispensable for everyone who values empirically-grounded, theoretically-informed and policy-relevant reviews of the sector.

VSR is published three times a year, in March, July and November.  A subscription is part of VSSN's membership benefit package - see our Members section to join.

Governance

Voluntary Sector Review is published by The Policy Press (TPP).  VSSN is grateful for TPP's support in launching and marketing VSR.

The governance structure is designed to provide VSSN members with an active role in the journal, not only by publishing their work in it but also by participating in the elections to the Editorial Management Board, as candidates and voters. Elections to the Editorial Management Board are held annually and the results announced at the VSSN Annual General Meeting each autumn.
