Venue: Sheffield Hallam University (City Campus – room details provided upon registration)
Time: 14.00-17.00, followed by an informal meal and drinks (optional)
The VSSN Steering Group has worked with a number of new researchers at SHU to put together an agenda for the session. We hope to use the workshop to pilot and develop a more active and participatory approach to the VSSN New Researchers Group, particularly in the 12 months between the incredibly popular stream at the annual conference.
The plan for 22nd May is to run two workshop sessions:
- Workshop 1 will cover ‘Presentation Skills for Research’: VSSN Steering Group members will provide some tips and guidance about what makes a good research presentation and participants will have an opportunity to think about how they could apply these to their own research
- Workshop 2 will give participants an opportunity to discuss how they would like to shape the New Researchers Group going forward, including topics and themes for future discussion and support; plus how the group meets, engages and provides opportunities for development and support throughout the year
We also hope the session will provide an opportunity for New Researchers to make new connections (with new and established researchers) and discuss the trials, tribulations and successes of their research in a supportive and friendly environment.
The proposed agenda is a follows:
14.00 – 14.15: Arrive, Light refreshments, Meet and Greet
14.15 – 15.45: Workshop session 1: Presentation Skills for Research
16.00 – 17.00: Workshop session 2: Getting the most from the VSSN New Researchers Group
18.00: Meal and drinks, Kommune (tbc), joined by other members of the VSSN community
Although the workshop is free we recognise that attending the workshop may incur additional expenses for participants. VSSN has therefore agreed to reimburse (reasonable) travel costs for New Researchers wanting to attend as part of its ongoing support for research in the field of voluntary sector studies. Anyone wanting to claim back their travel expenses will need to keep hold of their receipts and/or tickets, and will be provided with an expense claim form on the day.
We need to keep track of numbers, so can anyone who is planning to attend please complete the following Eventbrite form:
