Responses of non-profit organisations to altered conditions of support: the shifting Irish landscape
Cannon, Sheila M.; Donnelly-Cox, Gemma (2010)

This paper examines organisational responses to altered conditions of support in the Irish non-profit sector. Utilising resource dependence, power dependence and institutional theory lenses, interviews with 12 sector actors and a case study of the Centre for Peace and Reconciliation
(pseudonym) are analysed. Illustrations of four response modes – economising, harmonising, diversifying and monopolising – are presented. Additionally, collaboration, specialisation and strategic leadership categories are identified. Challenges to organisational legitimacy are
discussed.
