This paper provides an overview of Caring to Change (C2C), a project conducted by the author in collaboration with the Aspen Institute’s Programme on Philanthropy and Social Innovation. The purpose of the project is to develop and promote a new grant-making rubric that might enable
foundations to achieve more consequential and enduring benefits through their grant making. After discussing the project’s context and methods, the paper reviews its strategy recommendations, which are grounded in a value-based vision of role-driven philanthropy in service to the common
good. It concludes with a discussion of the project’s possible success.
