Why join VSSN?

VSSN is aimed at those who undertake research on the UK voluntary sector or who have an interest in using the outcomes of such research. At present the membership includes: academics, independent researchers and research managers in UK voluntary organisations, umbrella bodies and government. Membership is open to anyone over 18 who supports the aims and pays the current subscription. 

Benefits of membership

If you are involved in research activities related to the UK voluntary sector, you will find much benefit in becoming a member of VSSN including:-

  1. Much-reduced rates at our Day Conference Events
  2. A free subscription to Voluntary Sector Review
  3. Giving support to VSSN's objects (see About)
  4. An annual vote for in the election of Trustees
  5. An annual vote in the election of the Journal Editorial Board
  6. Eligibility to stand as candidates in the above elections
  7. Entitlement to appear in the online membership directory and network interactively with others
  8. Entitlement to an entry in the online courses guide (if you teach a relevant course).

Additional benefits for organisational membership

Organisational membership is open to smaller charities or voluntary/community groups and requires the approval of the Steering Group. It allows up to five representatives from the same organisation to receive similar benefits to individual members.

Responsibilities of membership

  1. To engage with other members in a collegiate manner whilst not avoiding critical debate

  2. Where the services of VSSN carry a price tag (such as the meetings) to pay up promptly and cheerfully

  3. To encourage other researchers doing work about the sector to join

  4. To communicate to Steering Group members any bright ideas or problems relating to VSSN

  5. To respond to an annual e-mail asking you if you still wish to be enrolled as a member.

You do not have to be a formal member of VSSN at present to attend VSSN events or take part in the e-mail discussion list.
