On 7 and 8 September 2011, the conference brought together academics, practitioners and policymakers with a shared interest in the voluntary sector and voluntary action. Over 50 research papers were presented at the conference. The papers covered a wide variety of topics and themes including: challenges for governance and management; volunteering; resourcing the sector; aspects of philanthropy; and social enterprise and knowledge transfer, among many others.
